2 STROKE VS. 4 STROKE Engines
A simple explanation by Jonas Borchert
Unlike the 2-stroke engine the 4-stroke engine goes through two full crankshaft rotations. In the combustion cycle the 4-stroke engine goes through four stages:
Intake: Fuel flows into cylinder
Compression: Fuel is compressed
Power: Fuel is then ignitedExhaust: Exhaust is pushed out

The 4-stroke engine goes through 2 full crankshaft rotations, which means that after the Power stroke it goes through a full rotation withought any applied forces. The compression stroke would then slightly slow the engine down for a brief moment before the next explosion.
